Il est composé d’au minimum un galet tendeur et\ou galet enrouleur et d’une courroie crantée. Parfois il entraine en plus la pompe à eau qui refroidit le moteur grâce au liquide de refroidissement.

Le kit de distribution est responsable du bon fonctionnement du moteur mais sa défaillance peut provoquer des dommage majeurs.
