Ca permet de transmettre l’énergie du moteur aux roues

Si le cardan casse, la transmission aux roues ne se fait plus et par conséquent la voiture reste immobilisé. En cas de rupture en virage la maitrise de la direction est perdue.

Un cardan défaillant se manifeste en virage par un bruit de claquement soutenu et continue provenant du jeu de ses articulations.
